Jane

Finished Size: 66” x 84”

Pattern: Jane Austen at Home Coverlet

Fabric Collection: Jane Austen at Home

Skill Level:  Advanced Intermediate thru Advanced

Pantograph Used: Dolce from My Creative Stitches

Cuts Used: The Jane Austen Coverlet Kit and additional fabric for the 2 outer borders and flange.

The original coverlet made by Jane, her sister, and their mother had an English Paper-pieced border that consisted of over 2500 diamonds!  The kit comes with a printed border that replicates the original border.  However, I was making this quilt for my mom, and she didn’t need a full queen-sized coverlet so instead of using the printed border, I attached a small 1.5” border in taupe and a 2” outer border in the same navy polka dots.  I used the extra wide backing designed for this quilt that was a collage of writings by Jane.

Tips:  This coverlet requires a ton of patience to make, but it is a great way to challenge yourself.  If you are going to attempt it, I recommend reading the instructions carefully, and using extra heavy starch as every piece in the main body of the quilt is cut on the bias.  I also highly recommend using a rotating mat.

Janome Horizon Memory Craft 9480 sewing machine

(I strongly recommend purchasing your sewing machine from a local store that offers repair services. However, if you don’t have a local store, you can buy it online at Amazon (https://amzn.to/4hujsjN) and other retailers. )

( It is difficult to find a complete quilt kit but the booklet with instructions, the diamond template, and the fabric are still available at some retailers. )

Note: I am a firm believer in supporting local business…especially quilt shops.  There are so few left and more are closing all the time.  I include these Amazon affiliate links so you can easily see what products I used and because not everyone has a quilt shop or fabric store close by.  Even if you do, they may not carry everything you are looking for.  In addition, these links help support my channel and website so I can continue to provide you with great content.
