The original coverlet made by Jane, her sister, and their mother had an English Paper-pieced border that consisted of over 2500 diamonds! The kit comes with a printed border that replicates the original border. However, I was making this quilt for my mom, and she didn’t need a full queen-sized coverlet so instead of using the printed border, I attached a small 1.5” border in taupe and a 2” outer border in the same navy polka dots. I used the extra wide backing designed for this quilt that was a collage of writings by Jane.
Tips: This coverlet requires a ton of patience to make, but it is a great way to challenge yourself. If you are going to attempt it, I recommend reading the instructions carefully, and using extra heavy starch as every piece in the main body of the quilt is cut on the bias. I also highly recommend using a rotating mat.
