Parakeet

Design Used: I did not use a pattern for this quilt. I just took a jelly roll ( 2.5” wide strips) and sewed the strips into sets of 3.  Then I cut the strip sets in 6.5” x 6.5” blocks and alternated the alignment of them.

Finished Size: 56” x 60”

Fabric Collection: Parakeet by Kaffe Fasset

Cuts Used: 1.5 jelly roll plus, yardage for inner border, binding, binding flange, and backing.

Pantograph Pattern:  Crazy Eights from Urban Elementz

Skill Level: Intermediate thru Advanced

Design Tips: Recommend non-directional prints.

Note: Although a lot of people recommend jelly roll patterns for beginners, I don’t think they are a great place to start.  Pinked edges are difficult to work with and if your ¼” is not perfect, your strip sets won’t turn out right and you will waste a lot of fabric.  Trust me…I know from experience!

(I strongly recommend purchasing your sewing machine from a local store that offers repair services. However, if you don’t have a local store, you can buy it online at Amazon (https://amzn.to/4hujsjN) and other retailers. )

Note: I am a firm believer in supporting local business…especially quilt shops.  There are so few left and more are closing all the time.  I include these Amazon affiliate links so you can easily see what products I used and because not everyone has a quilt shop or fabric store close by.  Even if you do, they may not carry everything you are looking for.  In addition, these links help support my channel and website so I can continue to provide you with great content.
