Pattern: Disappearing 9 Patch
Finished Size: 34” x 44”
Cuts Used: Small fat quarter bundle plus yardage for inner border, binding, binding flange, and backing. Pattern also works for Fat Sixths, Fat Quarters, or a layer cake.
Skill Level: Beginner thru Advanced
Why I like this pattern: The Disappearing 9 Patch is a great block because the finished block can be any size you want. It just depends on the look you are going for. Since this was a small quilt, I chose to go with small blocks, starting with 5” squares.
Design Tips: Because you can make a Disappearing 9 Patch any size, it means it is good for small to medium-sized prints. I recommend non-directional prints but directional prints are ok. Directional prints just mean that you are going to be limited on how/where you place your blocks.
I couldn’t resist trying my hand at making these cute little matching contoured burp rags. I used about 1/2 yard of chenille for the backs of the rags as well as fusible flannel for the middle.
